Little Mermaids

New Knitting Dolls

These little Mermaid knitting dolls are
as cute as can be.
There are six to the set each
one's hair different from the other.
They have little sparkle dots on
their bases in various colours.
They are newly released here
in Australia, and as far
as I can tell, very limited at present.
They should be more easily available
over the next 12 months.

These are made by Sailing Toys and Gifts Co. Ltd.,
exclusively for Sparkle T -
Made in China.

Curiously, instead of different coloured small balls of
yarn, they have included thin satin ribbon.
The loop tool has a fashioned hook on
its end.

When I find more available, I will
let you know.

New Knitting Dolls

Collectors of spool knitters
are now being catered for very
well - there are more new knitting
dolls for us to enjoy!

We also find a repaint of a
knitting doll - the Japanese doll.

These new knitting dolls are Made in China
with a slightly different version of a box
from a previous set of knitting dolls.
Remember those in their bright yellow
boxes with six different knitting
dolls - Eskimo, Japanese doll, Indian boy,
Indian girl, farm boy in blue
overalls, and another boy in red overalls?
These sets of dolls are
also found in a "knitting Nancy"
reproduction box by Heritage Toys
and Games.
(Both these sets in"yellow" and
"Heritage"
boxes are still being sold -
check out ebay.)

The wool supplied in the new
boxes are from Germany.
The loop tools are wooden
with a different colour ball
end. While the box remains
virtually the same, the various
craft shops, craft companies, toy
shops, and toy companies put
their own brand name/retail information
sticker on the boxes.
I wonder what we will discover next
about these sets!

ToysLink Knitting Doll

Chickids in Australia have a wonderful
new Knitting Doll on their website*
made by ToysLink - China.
Unfortunately, there is no information
to be found on this company but I would
say it is relatively new to the toy world.

*(Added April 24 - I am sorry to say that
they are now out of stock but I am told there will
be more arriving soon!)
**(Added April 29 - I am now very glad to say
that new stock has just arrived!)

The dolls are colourful with each one having
a slight difference to the other.
Besides the main colour, we have flowers,
facial features and hair, that all vary slightly.
Unusual in this time to have so many
variations in painting a knitting doll.
Surprisingly, the cost of the doll is extremely
reasonable.

Colours to be found are red, orange, blue, green, purple
and pink.

I am hopeful of finding the pink and purple
dolls to add to the set.

They come in their own plastic pouch with wooden
needle and instructions, and six different
coloured wools to start knitting with.

KNITTING DOLL

Knitting Doll by
Russimco Ltd.

These new sets dated 2007, are an interesting
find as the box top is a reproduction of the
Spears & Sons Knitting Nancy box.
It is such a pity that the original
Knitting Nancy has not been reproduced -
I was so disappointed to find that the
spool knitters contained in these boxes
are so totally different to the Spear's
"Knitting Nancy"......... :(!!

Below is an original vintage Spear
& Sons Knitting Nancy box and probably
the first boxes produced in 1926.
Note the wording on this - keeps
our Little Girls busy - and on the
reproduction box it is - keeps
our Little Ones busy.

Below is the back of the reproduction.
These spool knitters are -
"Available in three different designs".

Above photo shows the leaflets found in both
the original box and the reproduction.

Below - this photo is of another knitting dolls box
set where the knitting dolls available also are a
Japanese doll and Eskimo doll.
((This photo actually shows the "Indian" and
Japanese dolls and
the Eskimo doll (or perhaps it is a Russian cossack -
what do you think???) is illustrated on the box)).

SHAPES

Small Print
(Warning - this post may become boring!)

Have you noticed how many spool knitters
of today look similar?
These days of mass production and cost cutting
has "turned" our spool knitters into boring
same-shape figures of monotony. It turns out
that for serious collectors, we will have to
look for different colours, different attire, different
features, ...... get out those magnifying glasses to
play spot the differences!!
They might change the boxes - but you will
still find the same spool knitter.
Okay, we could collect the different boxes .....
different brand names, found in different
countries.
But even that can become a little boring.

Selecta Hobby made in Holland.
