YELLOW HAT BRIGADE!

No, I am not referring to fire fighters!

Have you ever noticed those spool knitters with yellow hats?
There are many of them.
When I acquired my first few, I realised that the bodies were
always painted differently.
This started my quest to find another with
exactly the same painted body!
The count is almost twenty and there
are no duplicates yet.

The majority that I have found are without a box or
packaging.

Charming Group!

Height is 9cms or 3 1/2inches.

This page comes from an English publication
from the 70's. Could we assume then that
they are about 40 years old?!

Named "Knitter".
This is part of the packaging I have for
just two in my collection.
Made for ASTU STUDIOS in G.D.R.
So they are made in Germany.
(Sorry for poor photo)

This one was found in this box.
Susi - Handarbeitskasten - no
other information at all on this box.

Now, what are these? Remember, I posted about
these before here. Oh my! so many puzzles,
so many questions!
Are all of these "yellow hatted" spool knitters
made in Germany?
Does anyone have one of these in its
original box/packaging?

It's wonderful to see these all together. I wonder how many you'll need to collect before you find a pair. If there is a pair - maybe they're as unique as snowflakes?

Hi, Crazyhaberdasher, I'm so amazed at your huge collection of spool knitters! I've blogged about the pool etc. today and also added a new photo to the pool.
I'd love to know if you have any spool knitters as big as my oldest one (I've never seen anything like it ).

strikkelise - thanks so much! Not yet - I would love to have one that size - but I feel that the only way that will happen is to have one made and paint it myself! Just love Knitting Nancies!

What a wonderful display- I never realized there were so many different looks.

All I can say is, if these were produced on a production line, then it seems a time-consuming, expensive way of doing it. But I am not complaining - I love all of the variations of the colours.

I would love to know the age of you SUSI handarbeitskasen. Mine is from 1985, but yours looks older.

According to the figures on the leaflet - ld 579/88 - so does that mean 1988?

Yes, I suppose so. Here is the page where I concluded it from: http://www.dresdner-kameras.de/firmengeschichte/guetezeichen/guetezeichen.html
It is about old german kameras.
I have just seen that you are in Australia! Isn't the internet an amazing place!
