Who Is it?

If you can tell me who this is, then I will be
happy. This shape "spoke" to me (originally
woodturned by my dear hubby), and I am
hoping that I got it right.
I am not ready to add the final touches
until I am satisfied!
So please let me know what you think.

Added - May 5 - Thanks to Kim!!
She saw it as Charlie Chaplin and she is
correct!
Now I will add the finishing touches..

SAME SHAPE

These spool knitters were purchased in Australia.
All are similar shape - the spool knitter at right is
hand-painted from a blank the same as the blank
at left.
Interesting to see some different looks from
the one shape.

KING AND QUEEN SPOOL KNITTERS

These spool knitters had been in the
pipeline for some time - partly due
to inability to finally decide which
colours to use (there had been
many changes) and
partly due to time!

Here below is the before photo -

New/Old Nancy!

I had to take a photo of the
latest arrival!!
My extra super special fantastic
favourite vintage spool knitter is
the "Spear's Games" Knitting Nancy
from the 1930's.......so when you find
one, it has to be a special occasion!
Here she is.... with her thoroughly
modern cousin (left).
I love the colour green she is
wearing. She would have been one
of the popular colours of her time.
Of all of the colours that have been found,
I think it is the brown that would be
the rarest - but I could be wrong.
Let us know if you have other "Nancies"
in other colours.

Not Another One!?

I hope you don't mind another look at
another new Knitting Nancy (Spear's
style), but this one is a little different,
believe me.
You know that I can never have enough
of this style spool knitter, and I made
a special request to my very special
woodturner friend to make a "Nancy" of
a different size - 20cms.
The original vintage "Nancies" are
10cms in height.
As I started with this painting project, I
thought that you might like to see the
work in stages.
So, here is the blank 20cms, very nicely
turned by my talented friend.

Below - the painting has started.

Legs, head, and other details
"fine-tuned"

And here she is complete with
arms and knitting. I have yet
to give her a protective acrylic
coating to make her all shiny.

Here she is - comparing her size
with the other most recent newbies of the group.

Now I will sneak yet another one in here, this
one is my dear husband's first attempt at turning
a Knitting Nancy (Spear's style). Of course,
painted by me - I call this one a Lego Knitting Nancy!
It still needs the nails and hollowed centre
for it to be a working model.
It is around 14cms in height.

MORE PAINTED TRICOTINS

Finally, I have finished painting the next two
tricotins/spool knitters

cleverly turned for me by my
very generous friend.

The larger of the two, I have painted as a Spanish Rose.
She wears a lacy top and also has gold earrings.
I felt that this tricotin/spool knitter was able to be painted differently
rather than traditionally seeing that it
was unusually bigger than its original. (see post "New Tricotins")

The second one is somewhat of a mixture of
ideas. Not too sure about what I wanted, but I didn't
want the traditional style who all seem to be a
cheeky looking masculine figure.
I would have liked perhaps a Victorian style figure
but as the skirt would need to be longer, that would
have looked a little silly.
So I ended up trying a different colour combination,
making it a female, with a lacy skirt.
Quite a mixture, but I suppose it all adds
to her character!

HOME MADE SPOOLIES!

Being the crazy collector that I am, I have to have a regular fix of spoolies, so, what better way than to make your own!

I have a large collection of sewing bits and pieces, so it wasn't hard to find empty wooden cotton reels/spools.


Here are a selection of spools, although they are a little small, but I continued on regardless and asked Chris (dear husband) to cut and nail some parts for me. I have decided to leave the labels on.

After sorting and glueing together, we now have the above line-up.


And here are three so far - I will add the next three as soon as they are completed.
Fiddly work with the smallest - pirate, being just 2 inches (5cms) tall, the granny about the same size, and the gentleman, at 3 inches (7cms). .....stay tuned!

..and here they are... these are smaller than 2 inches and I am not too happy with how they look ..... patchwork girl, young knave, and king. If there is a next time, I will be looking for larger samples.
